The VeriFone CR 1000i check and document reader offers merchants an easy and efficient way to take advantage of the benefits of check conversion and check imaging at the point of sale (POS). Paper checks are quickly and conveniently converted into secure electronic documents — greatly reducing the costs associated with handling, storing, processing, and collecting checks. The VeriFone CR 1000i fits in virtually any retail environment. The VeriFone CR 1000i check reader integrates with the merchant payment application to extend check conversion support to the POS. A separate fast modem handles the batching of large image files, reducing the time and cost of submission. What’s more, the unique flat-bed feed mechanism, combined with a simple stand permits over/under mounting with existing payment terminals, providing the smallest check imaging footprint in the industry — freeing up valuable counter space.

With the Verifone CR 1000i, check conversion and imaging are accomplished in a single step by feeding a check into the device, where a contact image sensor captures a 300-dot-per-inch (dpi) black-and-white image of the key elements of the check, including name and address, bank information and signature line. Once the device has captured the needed information, the VeriFone CR 1000i uses intelligent imaging algorithms to reduce the size of the check image data, optimizing the record size for storage and transmission. Transferring images to the host archive is a snap via the internal 56-Kbps modem, which can be set to automatically transmit images at a prescribed time each day.
